About Us

The Pinecrest Repertory Theatre Company is a collective formed by accomplished theatre artist Max Pearl along with acclaimed performing arts impresarios Darrell Calvin and Aaron Morris. With decades of stage experience behind them, they hope that this new collaboration will revitalize the South Florida theater scene and create affordable live entertainment for new audiences and longtime theater-goers as well.

 

Max Pearl earned his Bachelor of Science degree in film and theatre from the University of Miami and is a pioneer graduate of the New World School of the Arts. He studied acting under some of the best including:Uta Hagen, Larry Silverberg, and Ruth Newton. His stage acting credits include: In the Shadow of the Glen (Tramp), The Zoo Story (Peter), One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (McMurphy), The Foreigner (Charlie), Doonesbury: The Musical (Uncle Duke), Mother Courage (Commander), and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Robin Starveling). His film directing/ screenplay adaptation credits include The Swimmer and A Perfect Day for Bananafish for the University of Miami. In addition to writing screenplays, Pearl has also worked as production assistant for video production (Higher Authority Productions), and currently is on the promotions staff for WMXJ-Majic 102.7 FM and works in the voiceover field. Pearl has also worked under such dignitaries as Emmy-award winning anchorman Jerry Levine and Academy-award winning director Steven Spielberg. His theatrical background includes associations with Art-Act Theatre Company, The Caravan Players and the Lighthouse Children’s Theatre.

 

 

Darrell Calvin studied stage directing at Theatre Arts Club in SoHo London, England and at The Institute for Advanced Study in Theatre Arts in New York. He studied film and television at New York University. Calvin has been privileged to be a member of The Drama Desk Critics Circle, Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers Workshop Foundation, Actors Equity USA, Canadian Actors Equity Association, and British Equity. He brings with him a commitment to excellence in theatre management and stage directing from his years of experience in the commercial industry. He has been honored in working with the finest artists of the day: Bob Gunter, Janet McCall, George Rose, Dodi Goodman, Howard DeSilva, Zoe Caldwell, Jerry Herman, Carol Channing, John Houston and Howard Koch, plus many others. As a director his New York City credits include: Heloise at Equity Theatre, He Ain’t Done Right by Nell at the Provincetown Playhouse, and Guys and Dolls, Li’l Abner for the Isadora Strauss Theatre at the Educational Alliance on the Lower East Side as part of the new OFF OFF Broadway, and was a founding member of OFF OFF Broadway Theatre Association. Mr. Calvin moved to Miami in the 1980s to manage the historic Gusman Center for the Performing Arts. There he managed the pre-Broadway production of Flamenco Puro prior to its run on Broadway. Also at the Gusman he hosted Burt Reynolds and Julie Andrews in the world premiere of A Man and a Woman for Big Brother/Big Sisters. As manager for Zev Buffman Presents he managed Julie Andrews in Concert, and Cats at the Jackie Gleason Theatre on Miami Beach. His management savvy brought The New World Symphony, Miami City Ballet, and The Miami International Film Festival to the Gusman Center. He has been a guest visiting lecturer at the University of Miami School of Theater. For the past number of years he has focused his attentions in helping to nurture small, blossoming theatrical organizations with his years of expertise.

 

Aaron Morris is Founder and Chairman of the Board of Creative Development Group (CDG), which he created to address the growing demands of the culturally sophisticated and diverse South Florida arts community at a time when governmental funding for the Arts was being drastically curtailed. CDG was created to fill a gap in the existing funding community and bring a cohesive element to the Cultural Community of South Florida. Aaron Morris was born in Miami and educated at the University of Miami. Since 1970, he has worked as the third generation in the family business, Rex Artist Supplies. His ceaseless dedication and energy in the field of arts philanthropy has helped found the now well-established and internationally renowned events: Miami Film Festival and Miami Book Fair, both of which he served as Executive Vice President and Logistical Coordinator. He was a member of the Players Theatre in the 1970s through its rebirth as the Players State Theatre at the Coconut Grove Playhouse. He was a former member of the board of trustees of the Zoological Society of South Florida. He has been Chairman of the Board of Freddick Bratcher and Company, Contemporary Dance Theatre, since 1986. In 1986 he founded the Cultural Development Group, becoming an active director in 1996. While active with the Miami Film Festival he was curator of the Kobal Photograph Collection and Hollywood Movie Poster exhibitions. In addition, in 1985, he was the curator of the David Hamilton Photography exhibition at Mayfair in the Grove. Aaron has also published a book of poetry, Random Feelings.

 

 

Mission Statement: Pinecrest Repertory Theater Company's mission is to stimulate, celebrate and enhance understanding of ourselves and others through the shared experience of live theatre by producing classic and new plays that are marked by innovative interpretations reflecting our community and the world in which we live. Through this it is our aim to entertain, inform, and educate, thereby enriching the cultural life of Pinecrest and Greater Miami. Pinecrest Repertory Theater Company shall provide area residents the opportunity both to attend and to participate in quality presentations of a cross-section of the finest theatrical works available. Additionally, we shall provide education in the theatre arts to adults and children. In meeting these goals, Pinecrest Repertory Theater Company shall be mindful of the standards of its audiences and shall maintain fiscally sound management.
